I recently had the privilege of attending the 9th International Ablation Training Program at Juntendo University in Japan, thanks to the gracious invitation of Professor Shiina. The experience was nothing short of enlightening. Not only did I get to witness firsthand the expertise of a top ablation center, but I also immersed myself in the multifaceted dimensions of the procedure. From understanding the nuances of patient positioning, pre-ablation planning, and the pivotal role of an assistant, to mastering the art of anesthesia and establishing techniques for artificial ascites and pleural effusion, the training was holistic and comprehensive.
The hands-on experience with ultrasound, live demonstrations, extensive Q&A sessions, case discussions, and lectures provided a robust platform for learning. The fact that all live demo was conducted by Professor Shiina himself and that he played a part in nearly all lectures, showcases his unwavering dedication to the field. It was truly humbling and inspiring to dine with him almost every day, a testament to his passion and commitment. This gave us all a chance to engage directly with him, and I was deeply moved by his diligence, dedication, and tenacity.
In addition to the invaluable learning, I had the pleasure of enjoying delightful meals, including a memorable sushi dinner party. I genuinely believe there’s no other place globally that offers such a comprehensive ablation study camp. I will wholeheartedly recommend my colleagues to participate in this program in the future.
In conclusion, I want to express my immense gratitude to Professor Shiina, his dedicated team, and my fellow classmates. The experience has been transformative, and I eagerly look forward to reuniting at APASL 2024 in Kyoto. See you all there!
